REARING A GREAT DANE

Feeding until 12 months of age

Dry food:  Coprice Working Dog Adult, beef flavoured, contains the correct protein & calcium/phosphorus ratio for a growing Great Dane pup. It is important that whatever dry food is used that it be no more than 25% protein.

Morning:  One and a half cups of dry food. Drizzle one and a half to two tablespoons of olive oil or alternatively two tablespoons of butter or a pad of butter over dry food. It can be moistened with water or dissolved stock cube.

You can also add: one can of sardines two mornings a week; 4-6 squares of cheddar cheese (one-inch squares), two mornings a week; an egg two mornings a week.

The morning ratio of one and a half cups of dry must never increase during the dog’s life.

Evening:  Give as much dry food as pup can eat. If you want to add other foods (such as left-overs etc) be sure the ratio is two thirds dry food to one third of whatever. Beware of giving too much protein.

Exercise.

Let a young Great Dane find its own level of exercise. Do not take puppy for long walks or indulge in rigorous exercise until over 12 months of age.

Your dog must have at least 6 hours outside in natural light.

Be Careful.

Do not let children drop puppy from any height and discourage puppy jumping from any height until about 4 months of age.

Always have plenty of fresh water available. A Great Dane is a big drinker of water.

Adult feed, from 12 months.

No change, continue with Coprice Working Dog Adult Dry Food, remembering give one and a half cups in the morning and in the evening two thirds of Coprice to one third whatever.
